    Frequently Asked Questions

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Your browser does all the work with your device's own memory and processor. Your images never leave your device, so this is safe for private photos and documents.

What does the Compress slider do?

For JPEG and WebP it sets how much quality is traded for size: 20% compress keeps 80% quality. PNG is always lossless, so the picture does not change. For PNG the slider sets how hard the tool works (levels L-1 to L-6). Higher levels try harder to shrink the file and take longer.

Can the optimized image be larger than the original?

Yes, if the original is already well compressed or you convert to a heavier format. Each result shows its size in green when smaller and red when larger, so you can keep the original whenever the new file is not an improvement.

Will Resize make a small image bigger?

No. Max width only makes images smaller. An image that is already narrower keeps its size. Custom scale goes from 1% to 100%, so it cannot enlarge an image either.

What happens to transparency and photo details?

JPEG has no transparency, so transparent areas turn white when you choose JPEG. Images are re-encoded, so camera details and GPS location are not carried over.

How many images can I process at once?

Up to 100 files per batch, each up to 100 MB and 500 MB in total. Each side of an image can be up to 16,384 px. Download the results one by one or all together as a ZIP.

    Which format should I choose?

WebP gives the smallest files for websites and works in all current browsers. Choose JPEG for maximum compatibility with photos, and PNG for screenshots, logos and anything that needs transparency.

Do my files keep their names?

Yes. Each file keeps its name and gets the new extension. The ZIP is called optimized-images.zip.

Does it work with animated images?

No. Only still images are supported, and an animated WebP is saved as a single still frame.
